Ringgit closes higher against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today, prompted by the better performance of emerging Asian equity markets and improving crude oil prices, dealers said.
At 6pm, the local note was quoted at 3.9010/9050 versus the greenback from 3.9170/9200 on Friday.
A dealer said the local unit showed some signs of benefiting from stabilising oil prices.
The benchmark Brent crude traded 0.05% higher at US$63.58 per barrel, supported by Saudi Arabia's comment to curb shipments in line with the OPEC's effort to cut global supplies, the dealer said.
The ringgit, meanwhile, traded mixed against a basket of major currencies.
It declined against the Singapore dollar to 2.9654/9694 from Friday's 2.9607/9639 and depreciated against the British pound to 5.4848/4912 from 5.4705/4762.
The local unit increased against the yen to 3.6591/6632 from 3.6642/6677 on Friday and appreciated against the euro to 4.8142/8207 from 4.8203/8255, previously. — Bernama
