Today in Kuwait's history

KUWAIT, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- 1967 -- National Assembly elections were held for the second legislative term with 220 nominees competing for seats. With voters totalling 27,296 votes.
1969 -- A number of explosions rocked the National Assembly building, home of Minister of Interior and Defense, and the Interior Ministry building.
Twenty-one Kuwaitis and a Palestinian were apprehended.
1971 -- The Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued a decree approving the agreement for establishing the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD).
1984 -- Kuwaiti actor, Mohammad Al-Nashmi passed away at the age of 52. Al-Nashmi was one of the pioneers of Kuwaiti acting and participated in 25 plays, wrote books and was also a director.
1991 -- The first piece of Kuwaiti land, the island of Qarouh was liberated from Iraqi occupation. Qarouh is Kuwait's smallest island.
1994 -- The State of Kuwait signed an agreement with South Africa to provide the latter with one million tons of crude oil. This is the first oil agreement to be signed between the two countries.
2010 -- Amiri Decree 21/2010 appointing Mansour Ayad Al-Otaibi as Kuwait Permenant member in United Nations in New York. (end) mb
