The 99th meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC)
KUWAIT, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- The United Arab Emirates aims to strike a balance between consumption of conventional and clean energy by 2050, UAE Energy Minister Suhail Al Mazroui said.
In statements to reporters on the sidelines of the 99th meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), held in Kuwait Sunday, Al Mazroui that the UAE energy strategy focuses on increasing clean energy production to meet 50 percent of the local needs. The UAE plans to reduce using of natural gas for power generation from 100 percent currently to 38 percent by 2050, he pointed out.
The multi-faceted energy strategy also aims to enable the UAE to achieve self-sufficiency of natural gas, said, citing the recent announcement by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to invest 400 billion UAE dirhams (about USD 109 billion) over the next five years for boosting gas production.
The minister indicated that the UAE was also planning to improve the efficiency of the power plants to reduce gas consumption.
Al Mazroui added that the UAE sought to achieve energy self-sufficiency and to start exporting power surplus.
The UAE targets self-sufficiency of natural gas by 2030, he said. (Pick up previous)
