    Rupee opens 9 paise higher against US dollar at 65.33

    NEW DELHI: The rupee on Tuesday opened 9 paise up at 65.33 against dollar on account of selling of American currency by banks and exporters.

    The local currency on Monday settled 26 paise down at 65.42 a dollar. The Reserve Bank of India, meanwhile, fixed the reference rate for the dollar at 65.4272 and for the euro at 76.2161.

    Foreign portfolio investors stood net sellers in domestic equity markets on Monday and sold shares worth Rs 27.72 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 5,144.76 crore and Rs 5,172.48 crore, respectively.

    Domestic equity markets opened marginally in red on Tuesday. The BSE Sensex opened 43.53 points, or 0.13 per cent, down at 32,990, while NSE Nifty index opened 1.55 points, or 0.02 per cent, down at 10,223.

    Government bonds plunged for a second day on Monday, with the benchmark note settling at another record low, amid concerns that the central bank’s open market operations to sell sovereign securities will continue to add to supply.

    The GoI benchmark 6.79% 2027 bond yield rose to 6.97 per cent on Monday from 6.96 per cent in the previous session.
