The local currency on Monday settled 13 paise up at 63.91 a dollar. The RBI, meanwhile, fixed the reference rate for the dollar at 63.8701 and for the euro at 76.2162.
Domestic equity markets opened marginally in red following weak global cues. The BSE Sensex opened 26 points, or 0.08 per cent, down at 31,724.84, while NSE Nifty index opened 26 points, or 0.27 per cent, down at 9,886.
Foreign portfolio investors stood net sellers in domestic equity markets on Monday and sold shares worth Rs 556.98 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 4,294.49 crore and Rs 4,851.47 crore, respectively.
Government bonds fell on Monday, with the benchmark note ending at a near 12-week low, as traders deferred purchases amid lack of cues and ahead of a fresh supply of debt this week.
The GoI benchmark 6.79% 2027 bond yield rose to 6.57% from 6.54% in the previous session.
